My Story
Hi, I'm Gav, also known as Tobey Alexander. I am a late-diagnosed autistic adult, author, public speaker, and passionate neurodiversity advocate. Diagnosed with both Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Combined ADHD, commonly referred to as AuDHD, my journey has been one of self-discovery, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of authenticity. With nearly 20 years of experience in the Blue Light Services, I have developed a wealth of knowledge across various specialist roles in demanding and often traumatic environments.

My Journey
For many years, I concealed my true self behind a sea of masks, striving to fit in at the expense of my authenticity. Everything changed after my official autism diagnosis, which empowered me to embrace my identity fully. I hold a BSc in Psychology from Nottingham Trent University and a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (PTLLS), along with TAQA (Training, Assessing and Quality Assurance) qualifications. In 2015, I took a significant step by releasing my first book, marking the beginning of showcasing the unique potential that comes from being different.
Advocacy and Public Speaking
I am honoured to have been a guest speaker at various Tri-Service events, including those hosted by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), Derbyshire Constabulary, Ministry of Defence, Civil Nuclear Constabulary, and Lincolnshire Police. Through these platforms, I champion workplace awareness, education, and inclusivity, openly sharing my journey as "an autistic in denial."
Challenges and Triumphs
Between 2016 and 2019, my family and I faced a series of challenging events. My oldest son was hospitalised, my youngest son and I were both diagnosed with ASD, and my wife battled cancer. These experiences led to my son, my dad, and me trekking to Everest Base Camp when my son was just thirteen. It was on that adventure that our mantra, "You Are Your Only Limit," was born. These events inspired a trilogy of books to support my son through his diagnosis and my family through cancer treatments, instilling in me a belief that I am worth more than I had allowed myself to believe over the years.
Creativity and Purpose
My autistic brain channels creativity into books that defy conventional genres, reflecting the strengths and challenges of autism. Despite a limited marketing budget and the rough edges of self-published work, my passion to inspire and share my perspective as someone "wired differently" drives me. My screenplays have garnered almost 30 awards, yet I remain the little guy with big dreams. If my journey can inspire others and future generations to cast aside their masks long before I did, then my purpose is fulfilled.
Vision and Aspiration
My vision is to support and inspire peers and future generations to step away from the constant masking. As my work grows, my aspiration is to coach and support individuals by providing resources, tips, tricks, and lived experiences to help break through barriers—both self-imposed and those imposed by a world biased towards the neurotypical brain. I aim to empower individuals to embrace their true selves with confidence and authenticity.
Join Me
I am proud and vocal about who I am, and I am part of the neurodiversity revolution. Whether through my books, public speaking engagements, or advocacy work, I aim to build a more inclusive world where our unique differences are celebrated. Join me on this journey, read my books, and let's work together to create a society that embraces authenticity and diversity.
