There is a particular kind of stupidity in deciding to put creative work into the world when you already know what people can be like.
I say stupidity with affection, because apparently I keep doing it.
The uniform gave me authority. Leaving forced me to find influence. Leadership after the uniform is not about rank, title or role. It is about what remains when those things are stripped away, and whether people still listen when all you have left is your voice, values and experience.
